I am with you . We have gone though this before, but what must have been roof raising live, can seem long winded in the cool of our private listing space . And Pig's macho raps are an acquired taste . The more they actually "jam" it, I like it more . RBNW, I won't say your nuts for liking Bob's versions better than Ron (...well at lest they are shorter...) ..but ... OK , I like Warren's versions better than the Weir sung versions .
august west's point about Weir's blues forays, are relevant here, also .
As for Dark Star being overrated, I guess you could say the actual song part is not much . But where they could sometimes go with it ! It could delve into some pretty deep waters, more introspective , than the volcanic "Other One" ( I LOVE them both, though the commonness of "OO" , and the baskets full of perfunctory versions , in the latter days , hurts it's a bit ). There is good reason why that "DS " on "Live Dead" is so revered . It is beautiful .

Many of the Bobby versions are more vocally tolerable, however a lot of Garcia's best guitar work early on can be found in Lovelights. If you can get past the sometimes unbearable vocals, you'll hear some incredible playing by Garcia and Lesh. Same applies for Good Lovin'.
